A personal success story in finding my adventure again…

Hi everyone,

Many of us go through trials and tribulations on the adventure of our life. Unfortunately many people let the trials become their focus, the woes of life drag them down and they miss out on their adventure.  I can relate to this as I allowed some challenges in my life to keep me stuck, to keep me in a place that would not allow me to live to my full potential and realize my dreams (like I had died somewhere along the road).

I recently had a chat with Julie and afterwards she shared with me some of her adventure; the adventure of finding herself again after the big disappointment in her life.  I will allow you to personally read her adventure below.  But before I do that, allow me to share some insights with you that may help you:

It takes personal awareness to be able to detect where you are, if you are lost, missing out on your adventure and not living your full potential. So once you have this awareness and I believe that many people do indeed have this awareness, take action to go about correcting the belief that is implanted in your sub-conscious mind.  This is the point that many of you give up for fear has now gripped you in its clutches and you seem paralysed to move forward.  So instead you keep going on the same road you have been on all along.  Can you relate?  Part of the focus and passion of the IAT is to assist you in releasing that fear in order for you to live to your fullest potential.  So what is fear?  A sub-conscious belief played over and over in your mind triggered by any number of small incidents in everyday life.  So are these real?  NO!!  Fear is False Evidence Appearing Real!  Is it easy letting go?  It is if you so choose.  So how can you start living more and not allow your fear to imprison you?  I would recommend you connect with someone who has an interest in your success or maybe finding a counsellor in your area that will help you in breaking through.  There is nothing wrong with asking for help!  In fact it is very liberating and freeing.

How many of you can relate to Julie’s story below?  Please let me know.

Keep your blog pages current for more insights and information that might make a difference in your life.

So here is Julie’s powerful story on fear and conquering it.

Have an amazing and fearless day!

Getting divorced was the best thing that ever happened to me.  To many, that may seem an odd thing to say.  Those who have been through it, and come out the other side, may understand; divorce can be a great catalyst for change. Read more »

Worlds Most Dangerous Hike –

Robin takes off to China to find the source of one of the web’s most amazing photos, and see if Mount Hua is indeed the world’s most dangerous hike. More gonzo madness at www.moderngonzo.com

Martin’s Antarctic Polar Plunge!

pp-1

Experience our world of adventure through the Isa-Adventure Team – www.isaadventureteam.com

After having another fun weekend, I thought I would let you know what I got up to. I worked on Saturday (Yes, I am still working 6 days a week, unbelievably) I headed over to Scott Base to do the polar plunge. This is basically where you jump into the water and get out as soon as you want to. As I am sure you can imagine, it was rather chilly so you don’t hang around in there for very long. The temperature of the water was 29/-1.5 so this means that if you would drop an enclosed ice cube tray of tap water in, it would freeze solid.

pp-2

Anyway, some people dived in and others wore all kinds of risky clothing but the traditional way is to do it is to go naked. You will be glad to hear, I wont be enclosing any pics of this. The US side highly discouragers us to do this but if we really want to, we are aloud to go over to the Kiwi side and do it as safely as possible.

On Sunday, we had the McMurdo film festival. My friend and I made a 15 minute documentary called ‘In search of the MuMurdo River’. This is a completely fictitious river that we decided would now exist. It started off by a serious of interviews with all kinds of notable people around town (including the station manager) saying that they had heard of it but they didn’t know where it was. It then continued showing two characters searching for the river. One traditional old school Brit explorer and a crazy American hippy. I wont tell you how it ends as I hope you will get to see it one day. We had a great time making it and I think it is actually quite funny. The fest was a great time with lots of amusing movies. (It is amazing the things you think of when you are stuck out in the middle of nowhere)

prince-1
I also forgot to tell you about our Royal visit we had the other day. H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco stopped by and gave a short talk of his tour of Antarctica. Monaco has just joined the Antarctic Treaty and he is doing a month trip of the continent. That is the first time I have ever seen a head of state so that was something new and interesting for me.

Have fun out there,
Mart.

What are you missing in your life? – True Story!

The one who paid the most attention was a 3 year old boy. His mother tagged

him along, hurried but the kid stopped to look at the violinist. Finally the

mother pushed hard and the child continued to walk turning his head all the

time. This action was repeated by several other children. All the parents,

without exception, forced them to move on.

In the 45 minutes the musician played, only 6 people stopped and stayed for

a while. About 20 gave him money but continued to walk their normal pace. He

collected $32. When he finished playing and silence took over, no one

noticed it. No one applauded, nor was there any recognition.

No one knew this but the violinist was Joshua Bell, one of the best

musicians in the world. He played one of the most intricate pieces ever

written with a violin worth 3.5 million dollars.

Two days before his playing in the subway, Joshua Bell sold out at

a theatre in Boston and the seats average $100.

This is a real story. Joshua Bell playing incognito in the metro

station was organized by the Washington Post as part of a social

experiment about perception, taste and priorities of people. The

outlines were: in a commonplace environment at an inappropriate

hour: Do we perceive beauty? Do we stop to appreciate it? Do we

recognize the talent in an unexpected context?

One of the possible conclusions from this experience could be:

If we do not have a moment to stop and listen to one of the

best musicians in the world playing the best music ever written,

how many other things are we missing?

Is the Isa-Adventure Team and Isagenix what you have been missing in your life?

Rugby in Antarctica

r12

Here are a few shots of the Rugby game that was played last week. The game is played between USA and NZ every year. As you can see, it is quite a large event with quite a few spectators. It is exactly the same rules as Rugby Union but it is a smaller pitch and played for 4 15 minute quarters.

r21

As I am neutral between the teams, I decided to be a touch judge running one of the lines. Everyone had a great day and there were no serious injuries. There were a few minor strains and pains but at least no body had to be medi-vaced home. (I think 4 people had to go home after the softball tournament).

r31

As you know, the Kiwis take there Rugby very seriously so they even had cheerleaders and a commentator. I here they had a message from the All Blacks (NZ Rugby team) and the players had interviews with radio stations in New Zealand.

r41

It all started off with a minute silence for Sir Edmond Hillary followed by the Kiwi team doing the Haka. (The traditional Maori war dance) Sir Ed did a lot in Antarctica and is very much remembered and respected down here. It was exactly a year ago since he passed.

r51

The final score ended NZ 8-0 USA. Although the Kiwis did well, I was very proud of the Americans. They did extremely well considering half of them didn’t know the rules before they came down here and it is not one of there national games.

r61

In fact, most of the rules in Rugby are the exact opposite so they gave away lots of penalties for things like holding on to the ball instead of letting it go.

r71

The teams have played down here for the past 47 years so it is becoming quite a tradition. The Americans have never scored but are getting better each year.

r81

Hope you enjoy.

I.A.T. In Antarctica With Martin Barnett – Cosmic Bowling…

I haven’t written for a while so I thought I would say a quick hello. I have just come back from Cosmic bowling.

bowling-1

We have a small two lane alley here which is quite fun but not exactly the flattest lanes I’ve ever seen. It is very old school but that is one of the main reasons I like it.

bowling-2

We have pinsetters (People) that set the pins after every bowl and they wear stripy socks so we can see when not to bowl. Apparently, there are only a couple of these left in the states now so it is quite a novelty here.

bowling-3

I would be interested to hear if any of you have ever bowled like this before.

All is well here but I did go to the doctor the other day to look at my knee. It was quite weird being there as it was like I was in a MASH (US TV program) episode. Everything was all built years ago in the military style. Many of our doctors are military so they wear camo and green. Anyway, the doctor said I may have torn something and told me to stay away from any physical activities. We eat and do the same recreational activates as the Air Force and the National Guard here but they do sleep in different dorms from us. Played soccer that evening and we won so I was quite pleased about that.

ghouse-1

The word got out the other day that we were going to have a MCI (Mass critical injury) practice excise. Nothing came though on our pagers so I didn’t think anything of it. I found out later that somebody had actually been ran over by a trailer with mac track wheels. He crushed his pelvis and his legs and was medi-vacked to NZ straight away. I am not aloud to say anymore about it but I here he is going to be ok. That is the second person that has been run over this season and one of a few medi-vacs. It is generally very safe here but you always have to watch out with the large machinery.

ghouse-2

I actually got to do some welding last Wednesday. I was quite excited about that as I have always wanted to learn. I got to try all the different styles which was fun but my attempts were not very pretty. I will try and do some more over the next few weeks but we will see how that goes. I also learnt how to use a GPS in SAR last night so I was quite pleased about that too.

ghouse-3

One place that is a popular little hide out it the greenhouse. It is a small place which somebody started as a sideline project and the NSF (National Science Foundation) has aloud us to keep it so that is great. They grow all different kinds of vegetables and we get to eat them from time to time. There are two hammocks in there so it is a great place to hang out and actually smell some vegetation every now and again.

ghouse-4

We had a solstice party on Sunday night. It didn’t actually mean a lot to us as we haven’t seen it get dark since I got here but hey, any reason for a party, right. The weather here has been a lot more milder lately. If there is no wind, we can walk even walk around with no gloves. The temps don’t change between day and night so you really do have to work off your watch as it can screw your whole sleeping pattern up, very easily. Its is not so bad for me as I can usually sleep anytime.

I will leave it as that for now. I hope you are having a wonderful Christmas (Hanukah for you Brian) time and you are all well.

Take C.
Martin.

Isa-Adventure Team in Antarctica – “Women’s Soiree” and Glacier Pressure Ridges

Hey allllllllllllllllllll,

soiree-1

I am sure you are probably wondering what I am going to write about next and am I really going to keep sending messages for the whole time I am down here.

soiree-2

Well, I like to keep them interesting (No comments) and surprise you from time to time so her goes. I’m sure you wouldn’t expect this from Antarctica but I actually ended up going to a ‘Womans Soiree’ on Saturday night. This show is put on by the woman on station for everybody to celebrate Hollywood and its performers.

soiree-3

There were twelve different acts including singing, belly dancing, guitar playing, tap dancing, trumpet playing, swirling and a rather interesting French act. It was most entertaining and a wonderful time was had by all the participants and viewers.

pr-1

The second set of photos are probably more like what you would expect.

pr-2

They were taken at the pressure ridges just off the edge of Scott (NZ) base. They are created as the glacier pushes into the ice shelf and forms an up lift.

pr-whale

As you can see, they are spectacular formations but they wont let us climb them unfortunately.

pr-3

Hope you are all well and nearly ready for Christmas.
